Using the Glossary

The glossary keeps character names, genders, and terminologies consistent across translated chapters.

Glossary Types

There are three categories in the glossary: characters, titles, and terms.

1. Characters

Sometimes the AI can translate the same character name slightly differently across chapters, e.g. Taekjoo vs Taek Joo vs Taekju. Setting the translated name for each character will keep it consistent.

You can also set a gender for each character. Note that only Hobby and above tiers can change character genders.

2. Titles

Examples of titles are "夫人" (Madam), "师叔" (Martial Uncle), "师兄" (Senior Brother) and "师妹" (Junior Sister).

We understand that people have individual preferences for titles (e.g. Shixiong instead of Senior Brother). You are free to define whatever translation you want the AI to use for titles.

3. Terms

These are domain terms or genre-related terms that are used in the novel.

Detecting New Terms and Characters

You can use AI to detect new terms and characters that appear in a particular chapter.

Click on "Edit Glossary" on the chapter page, and then click on "Detect New Terms and Characters". After detection is complete, you can customize the translation as you wish.

For the current chapter, go back to the chapter page and regenerate the translation to reflect your glossary changes. The glossary will automatically be applied to future chapters.

Import an Existing Glossary

If you already have your own set of characters/terms, you can import them into OpenNovel.

Prepare your glossary using the following CSV format:

type,raw_term,translated_term,gender
character,花城,Hua Cheng,male
character,谢怜,Xie Lian,male
character,师青玄,Shi Qingxuan,undecided
term,修炼,cultivation
term,灵根,spiritual root
term,功法,cultivation method
title,师兄,Senior Brother
title,师妹,Junior Sister

Once your CSV file is ready, go to the glossary of a novel and click "Import Glossary", then select your file.
